YGN: Hartlepool Power Station Tour Event Image

This tour is of the Hartlepool nuclear power station. Hartlepool is compromised of 2 AGRs (Advanced Gas Reactors) which have been operational since the 1980's and are due to cease operations in the late 2020's. The power station is currently owned and operated by EDF which a net power output of over 1200MW. 

The tour aims to provide an insight into the deisgn and operation of the second generation of British gas cooled reactors. These reactors use a graphite moderator and CO2 coolant which have been fundamental in the British Nuclear Industry. 

This tour is free of charge, there are only 19 places available and priority will be given to Nuclear Institute YGN Members, should a non-YGN member register they will be added to a waiting list.

Registrants are to obtain and submit line manager approval to go on the visit.

Physcial requirements - The tour is quite rigorous, involving numerous flights of stairs, the use of lifts and can reach high temperatures at points. Disabilities or medical condition affecting mobility, or the ability to safely navigate a functioning nuclear power station need to be declared so auitable arrangemrnts can be put in place
