The Intro to Fusion event is designed for early career professionals and those new to fusion, providing a clear, engaging introduction to the science, engineering, and ambitions driving fusion energy in the UK and internationally. The programme combines expert insight with first hand experience to help participants understand what fusion is, how it works, and where it is heading.
Across the core programme, delegates will hear from leading specialists on the fundamentals of fusion energy, including plasma science, reactor concepts, materials, fuel cycles, magnets, robotics, regulation, and energy system integration. Sessions also place fusion within a wider strategic and economic context, highlighting major international programmes and the UK’s role through initiatives such as JET, ITER, and STEP.
Attendees will take part in a live virtual tour of ITER in France, offering a rare opportunity to explore the world’s largest fusion experiment and gain early exposure to the scale and complexity of international fusion delivery.
The programme also includes a technical visit to the Culham Campus, with guided tours of JET and RACE, giving delegates direct insight into operational fusion facilities and enabling technologies such as remote handling and advanced robotics. These visits are designed to bring the technical content to life and demonstrate how fusion concepts translate into real world engineering challenges and solutions.
Throughout the event, there will be dedicated opportunities for networking, interactive Q&A, and open discussion with subject matter experts, supporting knowledge sharing across disciplines and career stages.
The Intro to Fusion event aims to ensure participants leave with a strong, well rounded understanding of fusion energy, its science, challenges, opportunities, and people, while feeling informed, inspired, and better able to see where they can contribute to the future of fusion.
