Central England

About us

The Central England Branch of the Nuclear Institute brings together a community from across civil nuclear and defence sectors. The region encompasses major nuclear sites including AWE, staff working at the Harwell Campus in Oxfordshire and in particular those working at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. The JET (Joint European Torus) project is also on our doorstep at the UK Atomic Energy Authority, and we often host lectures related to fusion energy.

Run by a committee of dedicated volunteers, the branch runs a broad range of events, lectures and visits throughout the year in response to the demands of the blossoming regional nuclear community.

What we do

The Central England Branch helps to promote the aims of the Nuclear Institute through an ongoing programme of educational, networking and social events, including:

  • Nuclear-specific lectures, seminars and webinars
  • Technical tours and visits
  • Annual Speaking Competition in collaboration with the Young Generation Network
  • Networking events for the regional nuclear community
  • Outreach and public engagement activities
