The Nuclear Institute (NI) and the Indian Nuclear Society (INS) have signed a landmark five-year co-operation agreement designed to strengthen collaboration between the two organisations and their members.

With a focus on nuclear skills, professional standards, training and knowledge exchange, the partnership builds on the existing relations to create a formal agreement, reflecting a shared commitment to supporting the safe and effective development of nuclear science and technology through practical collaboration.

This will enable the international adoption of UK-developed approaches to nuclear professionalism, leadership and skills development.

Presidents' reactions

Professor Adrian Bull MBE HonFNucI, President of the Nuclear Institute, said: “I'm delighted to see this official partnership between the Nuclear Institute and our counterparts at the Indian Nuclear Society. As that two leading nations with such long and deep nuclear histories, we have much to learn from co-operation and sharing of good practice.  I very much look forward to seeing the fruits of this relationship over the coming months and years.”

Members of the Indian Nuclear Society will receive discounted access to the Nuclear Institute’s online learning platform, with selected courses offered free. The training covers regulatory practice, safety culture, innovation and ongoing nuclear-specific modules. Rooted in UK practice, the programmes are relevant internationally.

Supporting wider adoption of the Nuclear Institute’s Nuclear Professionalism Standard®, the partnership promotes a shared, recognised approach to professional conduct, competence and leadership.

The organisations will collaborate practically, hosting joint webinars, meetings and workshops via digital platforms to maximise engagement.

Vijay Manchanda, President of the Indian Nuclear Society, said: “The Indian Nuclear Society has the mandate to collaborate with government agencies, educational institutions, and other organisations for the advancement of knowledge and technology pertaining to nuclear science. This Memorandum of Cooperation with the UK’s Nuclear Institute will go a long way to help the Indian Nuclear Society rededicate itself towards its objectives.”

The organisations have also committed to supporting each other’s conferences and events, including fee-free participation for speakers and senior representatives. The cooperation covers knowledge sharing, with the exchange of technical publications, journals and reports, as well as the potential co-sponsorship of technical or policy-focused papers where interests align.

Selected content from INS lecture series may also be hosted on NI digital platforms, further expanding access to international expertise for UK audiences.

By strengthening professional links and shared standards, the partnership supports long-term workforce resilience for the UK nuclear sector, helping to address skills challenges across new build, decommissioning, regulation and emerging technologies.

The agreement is an industry-led collaboration, focused on professional excellence and technical exchange, and does not represent or influence UK or Indian government policy.
