Membership Development and Retention

The YGN offers diverse opportunities to engage members and support their professional growth throughout their nuclear careers. From speaking competitions and exclusive facility tours to networking with industry leaders and skills development programs, our initiatives are designed to attract new talent while keeping existing members actively involved and connected to the nuclear community.

The YGN speaking competition is a yearly competition open to anyone under the age of 37.

Regional heats are held in each of the Nuclear Institute branches with a cash prize for the top three, if a participant wins a regional heat then they go on to compete in the final. Finally if declared the overall winner they will be able to present their talk at the Annual Day Seminar and Dinner in front of ~700 people.

View the list of previous winners on our Awards and Prizes page.

As part of the membership benefits of the YGN, we organise free in person and virtual tours to various nuclear facilities across the country. In the past we've visited Heysham 1 + 2, Hinkley Point C, UKAEA, and Dounreay.

In addition to nuclear sites we are also looking at organising a few tours to non-nuclear sites.

Community events give participants a chance to directly ask questions and talks to senior leaders in the nuclear industry. Previously we've had people such as Ciara Middlehurst Co-CEO of NTS and Monica Mwanje a co-founder of Inclusion and Diversity in Nuclear.

This isn't all that they offer, some community events will focus on how to improve your skills and how to develop as a leader.

The Becoming Me Programme focuses on helping delegates understand and embrace their authentic selves in the workplace, with an emphasis on flourishing in their work while making a meaningful difference.
