International

Global networking, innovation competitions, international trips, and knowledge exchange with nuclear professionals worldwide.

I4N (Innovate for Nuclear)

Innovate for Nuclear is a global innovation competition aimed at students and young professionals within the nuclear field. The competition is composed of 3 stages: National; Regional (Europe) and Global. The UK National competition takes place between January and May each year and invites participating teams to submit an innovative idea focussed on the competition theme. The winners of the UK competition progress to the European stage and the European champions will progress to the global final.

This is a fantastic opportunity to improve your presentation skills, work strongly as a team, problem-solve creatively and do it all on the International stage.

Innovate for Nuclear 2026

Our team at Young Generation Nuclear is pleased to announce that we have launched our third year of the Innovate for Nuclear (I4N) UK Competition. This opportunity promises lots of benefits including mentorship, excellent industry experience, and the chance to present your ideas to senior leaders within the nuclear industry with representatives from Arup, Frazer-Nash and NDA group confirmed.

This exciting competition involves grouping up into teams of 1-4 to create a project detailing a solution to help achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The four highest scoring teams will be selected to compete in the UK final in Birmingham on the 16th of April 2026. Each finalist team will be given a mentor - someone with significant industry experience under their belt to coach the teams to their best. They will then present their work to expert judges with senior knowledge of all things nuclear!

Winners of the UK I4N will get the chance to compete in the European Finals on the 12th of June 2026 and win some prizes. The winners will have their transport and accommodation costs for the European I4N contest covered completely!

International Trips

Each year the International Sub-Committee organises an International Trip for YGN members. The aim of these trips is to offer opportunities to YGN members to develop their knowledge and understanding of the global nuclear sector as well as to build stronger networks with international colleagues. The agenda varies from trip to trip, but usually consist of technical presentations, networking opportunities, site visits and cultural experiences.

  • 2023: Canada
  • 2025: Finland
  • 2026: United Arab Emirates

Webinars

Our technical webinars are designed to give a sneak-peak into aspects of the nuclear sector outside the UK. Previous topics have included: AMRs, Waste Management and Fusion. These webinars take place 4x a year with different international experts presenting on a range of topics.

Details for the webinars are released on social media usually a month in advance.

Coffee Connections

The Coffee Connections initiative goes hand-in-hand with our Webinar offering. These sessions are designed to offer a virtual networking environment to discuss the Webinar topic in a relaxed and informal environment alongside YGN members from all corners of the globe.

Young Generation International Network (YGiN)

The YGiN will be our first international buddy system. It will offer YGN members the chance to connect with a colleague based overseas and facilitate regular catch-ups, strengthening connections between the UK and the global nuclear sector.

Whether you have plans to move abroad, are interested in how certain countries operate their nuclear industry or even want to practise your foreign language skills, the YGiN could be perfect for you.
