Young Nuclear Professionals' Forum

About UsYNPFLogo

The "Young Nuclear Professionals’ Forum", known as the YNPF, was formed in 2016 to foster collaboration across professionals the Nuclear Industry. The YNPF is a collective of nuclear professionals early within their career who support the Safety Directors’ Forum (SDF) and Nuclear Engineering Directors’ Forum (NEDF) to improve and promote best practice across the industry by completing task on their or their associated sub-groups' behalf. We consist of representatives from a range of companies in the civil and defence nuclear sector including nuclear licensed sites, MOD nuclear authorised sites, companies with major nuclear interests and regulatory bodies (as agreed by the group membership).

The YNPF meets regularly to discuss current and future programmes of work and to facilitate the sharing of knowledge. The completion of tasks is a key focus of the YNPF and are great for challenging ourselves, gaining experience outside of our day-to-day roles and putting forward an alternative perspective on the challenges facing the nuclear industry today whilst looking to improve the industry for the future.

Vision

A self-sustaining platform for young professionals to have a valued voice in the nuclear industry.

Mission

To be a respected, taskable resource group which is mutually beneficial with respect to both the development of our members and the development of the Nuclear Industry.

Objectives

  • Establish a communal resource pool, provided by the group’s parent companies, as a taskable commodity to undertake actions, research, report compilation and presentation delivery to order to achieve the missions of both the SDF and NEDF.
  • Facilitate the collaboration and communication of professionals early in their career throughout the Nuclear Industry.
  • Fostering a relationship between its members and the SDF, NEDF and their sub-groups. This relationship can support with members getting further involved with the groups in the future, e.g. SDF Sub-Group Secretary.
  • Providing a space to support the personal development of members technically, in areas which may relate to or differ from their working sector in the industry, as well as behaviourally in areas such as communication, leadership experience, project management techniques and reporting experience.
  • Ensure that the YNPF is in itself sustainable and able to support the SDF and NEDF for the future of the industry.
