As Nuclear Compliance Safety Lead, not only will you play a key assurance role but, by contributing to our research projects, also develop your reputation as a world-leading expert in your field and architect of safer energy for the future.

What you will do

You will support the implementation, commissioning, management and operation of the University’s new alpha radionuclide laboratories and lead on safety issues. Reporting directly to the Nuclear Laboratory Control Manager (NLCM), you will line manage Health Physics operations and form part of the core Nuclear Compliance team along with other Leads at the facility. You will support the NLCM in meeting standards set by regulatory bodies and facilitate the smooth implementation of environmental, radiological safety and security compliance in everything we do.

Joining the team as Nuclear Compliance Health Physics Lead means playing a key governance role and contributing to pioneering research that will further understanding and place you among the world’s top experts in your field.

What you will do

Supporting the operation of the University’s new alpha radionuclide laboratory capability, you will help develop protocols, procedures  and systems for transport, storage and safe handling for our alpha radionuclide laboratories. Along with other Leads within the department, you will be part of the core Nuclear Compliance team that drives knowledge-sharing and our collaborative approach to research.

You will support the Safety Lead in meeting standards set by all relevant regulatory bodies while ensuring compliance measures are in place to cover all environmental and radiological safety work done at the University.

Just as important is the role you will play in inspiring others with the work you do. The nuclear science community will be looking to our expertise for answers, and you will lead by example in providing them.

As part of the core Nuclear Compliance team, you will support the operation of the University’s new alpha radionuclide laboratories and lead on security issues. Collaborating with other Leads within the department, you will support the team-based, knowledge-sharing approach that drives our ground-breaking research.

You will work with the Nuclear Laboratory Compliance Manager to ensure we meet standards set by all relevant regulatory bodies, while implementing compliance measures in radiological safety, environmental and security matters.

As Radiation Technical Advisor, you will play a key governance role in a pioneering research project that will further establish the University as one of the centres of nuclear expertise.

What you will do

You will help ensure that the use and disposal of radioactive materials at the University complies with all relevant regulations including the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 and Nuclear Safeguards Act 2000. Risk assessments, operating procedures, transporting and exporting radioactive materials—you will collaborate with the Head of Services and other facility Leads to ensure we meet the highest standards of security and safety.

Driving a collaborative, knowledge-sharing approach to work, you will deliver laser safety compliance and radiological protection training programmes and provide expertise in an increasingly key area of energy security.
