Robert Alford

Robert started his career with the National Nuclear Laboratory in August 2012 as a chemical and process modeller having graduated from Loughborough University. In 2013 Robert moved to Workington Laboratory to join NNL’s Particle Sludge and Slurry Science Team, part of the Waste Management and Decommissioning (WM&D) business area. Over Robert’s time with the company, he has undertaken a number of projects mainly in support of the Sellafield site and become heavily involved in the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme working with a number of the local schools. More recently Robert has been working on a collaborative project with Radioactive Waste Management (RWM), Sellafield Ltd, The University of Manchester and NNL investigating the Letter of Compliance (LoC) process.  

Robert is an enthusiastic member of the Nuclear Institute and the YGN. In 2013 he took over as NNL representative for the NI and YGN and joined the Cumbria events committee. He has been involved in a number of events, including organising Cumbria Branch lectures on topics as diverse as Space Batteries and WallRover (a wall climbing ROV); Robert also organised a YGN “An Audience with…”. For Robert’s contributions to the YGN he was awarded the Excellence Prize in 2014 at the Network’s annual dinner held at Carlisle Racecourse in Cumbria.
