Nuclear Engineer (REF: 2017-18693)

Overview / Responsibilities 
Wood is seeking a skilled and experienced Engineer to be based in our Bristol Business Park Office. You will be working within an established yet growing team operating within Wood's Bristol Consultancy & Defence Business, primarily supporting the Ministry of Defence in the Nuclear Submarine Programme.

This role is ideal for a confident and ambitious Nuclear Engineer, several years into their career or a seasoned veteran. You will enjoy a considerable degree of autonomy and be expected to do the right thing both technically and behaviourally in terms of acting as an ambassador for the company on client premises. 

Role Responsibilities: 

  • To provide authoritative advice to MoD in support of their internal governance processes
  • To act as a Subject Matter Expert in your relevant technical areas, providing technical advice to MoD
  • Representing Wood Plc at external project and technical meetings with MoD and their contractors
  • Representing the Bristol - Amec Foster Wheeler team at internal project, technical and safety meetings
  • Identifying commercial opportunities for Wood and ensuring that appropriate follow-up actions are taken
  • Maintaining and upholding Wood codes of conduct and safety standards



Skills / Qualifications 
Skills / Qualifications 

  • Experience within the naval nuclear propulsion programme and detailed knowledge of naval reactor plant
  • Excellent communications and presentation skills
  • Relevant science or engineering academic qualification
  • Ability to work across a range of tasks and liaise with stakeholders at all levels
  • Flexibility with the ability to travel as the demands of the role dictates
  • Working knowledge of Safety Case construct and production
  • Working knowledge of UK Regulatory systems and the organisations involved
  • A strong self-starter mentality, able to work confidently, often un-supervised
  • Must be able to obtain SC clearance
  • You must be a UK Nation due to security clearances
