Chair of Low Carbon Contracts Company and Electricity Settlements Company

| Flexible

Flexible location, with regular travel to London.

2 days per week

LCCC and ESC are sister companies (wholly-owned by the Secretary of State for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy) that play key roles in supporting delivery of secure and low-carbon electricity for the UK. LCCC is the counterparty for Contracts for Difference, which incentivise investment in low-carbon electricity generation. ESC is responsible for all financial transactions and associated assurances for the Capacity Market, which maintains a healthy surplus of electricity capacity. The work that we do plays a key role in protecting energy security for the country and supporting and facilitating long-term investment in the UK’s low carbon energy future.

Since forming five years ago, the LCCC & ESC have established a positive reputation, and we now require a Chair to lead the organisations through the next phase in their history, supporting and developing capability and impact. As the strategy owner for the LCCC & ESC, you will work closely with the leadership to ensure the companies’ direction is shaped to ensure delivery of the best service possible. In order to support the organisation in achieving success, you will also need to develop effective relationships with leaders in government and the energy industry.

The successful candidate will bring experience of working within a commercial environment with at least some exposure to working with the public sector, with knowledge of the complexities of the structured finance arrangements that enable major infrastructure projects. You will be an excellent communicator, capable of developing proactive relationships with a range of stakeholders, and will be comfortable in getting to grips with the diverse range of issues that shape the electricity market. Chair experience is not essential, but you should have extensive knowledge of governance and of influencing in a non-executive capacity.
