RadWaste Special Interest Group

 

Overview

The principal purpose of this group is to highlight the importance of radioactive waste management to the UK to encourage improvements in performance and resilience, and to maximise opportunities for growth. The outputs of this group are focused on encouraging collaboration and sharing between industry sectors of good practice in radioactive waste management, to promote a better understanding of the capabilities that exist in the UK.  Outputs also seek to ensure that the industry remains able to attract and retain a skilled workforce as well as making best use of opportunities for growth both domestically and internationally

Steering Group & Terms of Reference 

Chaired by Helen Simms, the work of the SiG is coordinated by a Steering Group that reports to the Nuclear Institute CEO alongside a Nuclear Institute Board of Trustee (Juliet Long).

  • Production of responses to the GDF consultations (England and Northern Ireland with separate consultations released by the Welsh Government)
  • Shaping the content and structure of a SIG run workshop at the NI Integrated Waste Management Conference programme (www.iwmeurope.com) being held at the Rheged Discovery Centre , Penrith on the 24th & 25th April. 
  • Consider topics, objectives and outputs of our next four meeting.  Identify what the group will aim to achieve over the next year/18 months.
