The Nuclear Institute, the professional learned society for the nuclear industry, is pleased to announce the appointment of Sarah Beacock as its new Chief Executive Officer.

She joins us at an exciting time of our development. Nuclear professionalism and creating a strong future skills base is at the heart of what we do. I know that Sarah will bring her extensive expertise and experience to continue this important work."
"I would also like to extend my thanks on behalf of the Nuclear Institute and Trustee Board to Alastair Laird, our outgoing Interim Chief Executive. Over the last nine months Alastair has provided excellent leadership for the Institute and team, and made very significant progress in providing a new focus and structure to what we do. He has helped create a much stronger organisation and professional brand and offer for our members. Alastair will continue his role as a trustee, providing valuable input and perspective across a range of areas."
Sarah joins us from the London-based Energy Institute (EI), where she had a long and distinguished career spanning the last 15 years. Her roles with the EI have included Professional Affairs Director and most recently Skills and Capability Director. In this last role Sarah was responsible for the EI’s membership, education, training, branches and international activities. She also co-ordinated all the EI’s IT needs and led on the development of staff capability.
Since 2012 Sarah developed four staffed international branches and oversaw the growth in membership and training activity within the EI. Sarah has represented the EI on a variety of European working groups as UK expert on energy managers, skills and energy efficiency. She regularly contributes articles and presentations on the topic of skills in energy. Sarah has a BSc in Environmental Science from the University of Plymouth.

Sarah took up her new role on Monday, 20 February, and has been supported in a transitional capacity by Alastair Laird and the Nuclear Institute team as responsibilities were handed over.
