AWE becomes corporate member of the Nuclear Institute

AWE has become a corporate member of the Nuclear Institute (NI) to promote nuclear professionalism and continuous development of its employees, specialising in the field of nuclear science, engineering and technology.

AWE plays a crucial role in the defence of the UK, by providing and maintaining warheads for the country’s nuclear deterrent. The company is a centre of scientific, engineering and technological excellence, with some of the most advanced research, design and production facilities in the world. Its expertise also assists the UK government in developing and delivering a range of innovative and integrated support services, including national nuclear security and counter-terrorism solutions.

Establishing the NI corporate membership is AWE’s next step in developing and publicising its commitment to professional registration – ensuring that it provides different routes and opportunities to membership of a professional institution.

AWE Sites and Assets chief engineer Roy Manning commented: “I am fully behind this exciting initiative. The NI is a growing and important professional body who offer essential ‘nuclear related’ experience to individuals in all areas of our business and operations. I am also pleased that the number of our members is steadily increasing.”

In addition to the NI’s provision of high standards of training, safety and professional performance, AWE’s membership will also deliver benefits in how the company can advance education in the nuclear domain, raise awareness of public understanding of nuclear sciences, and its impact on society and the environment.

The NI looks forward to working with AWE in support of its mission in helping to inspire the next generation of professional nuclear specialists.
