UK HPR1000 Reactor Regulatory Assessment Progress and Key Challenges

The UK HPR1000 Reactor is currently being delivered by General Nuclear
System since January 2017 by using Fangchenggang Unit 3 as the reference
plant, which is now under construction in China. This reactor design is
currently under Generic Design Assessment (GDA) by ONR and EA for the
proposal to use the Bradwell B site for this reactor. The HPR1000 is the
fourth civil nuclear reactor technology to have been assessed under GDA in
the UK.

This lecture will discuss the reactor design, the progress of the GDA, and
also the key risks and challenges that need to be addressed.
