Webinar - A failure to decide: Perspectives on why nuclear projects suffer from poor predictability

Introduction to the UK EPR Design Centre for Nuclear New Build Projects (2)

Nuclear projects represent some of the most impressive achievements of the human race, with Calder Hall, Shippingport and JET delivering scientific firsts that will find a place in history books for centuries to come. However, consistency in delivery is an issue across the sector and poor predictability can have dramatic consequences for key projects. For instance, in recent years we have seen the cancellation of two megaprojects within the nuclear new build sector: NuGen’s Moorside project in West Cumbria, and Horizon Nuclear Power’s Wylfa Newydd project on Anglesey. This webinar seeks to explore what factors cause this unpredictability, especially those factors that are unique to the nuclear industry in the UK and how they impact project predictability, which damages investor confidence. We’ll focus on the correlation between slow decision making and poor project predictability, and discuss options for moving toward a more predictable and consistent future.
