The Competition
The competition is open to all in the YGN target demographic (either 37 and under, or new to the industry). However, the competition is open to members and non-members of the NI also.
The winner then goes forward to take part in the National YGN Speaking Competition and competes against other branch YGN Speaking Competition winners. A National Competition will be held in the autumn this year, with further cash prizes and the opportunity to present at the YGN Seminar preceding the YGN Annual Dinner in 2018.

The Subject Matter
We encourage you to make a presentation on any “nuclear energy related subject”
We hope that this will encourage those of you new to, or thinking of starting a career in the nuclear industry, to participate. For those of you wishing to present a ‘commercial or sensitive’ subject, we remind you of the importance of OBTAINING PERMISSION FROM YOUR EMPLOYER/ UNIVERSITY in advance.

The Experience
The aim is to give you the opportunity to gain valuable experience in communication skills in front of a live audience. Emphasis is placed on presentation rather than the written word and the ability to handle questions from an audience.

The Application
All you have to do is submit the title and a 200 word synopsis on your chosen subject and provide the application details requested below. The synopsis will give the judges a flavour of the topics to expect. The six best synopses judged by the organising committee will be invited to present at the Presentation Competition for Young Speakers on Thursday 10th May.

THE MARKING SCHEME
Each presentation must last no more than 10 minutes and each competitor is given 5 minutes to answer any questions from the judges or audience.

The marking scheme is:
Topic criteria met (directly related to the "nuclear energy"): 5 marks
Synopsis: 10 marks
Oral presentation and talk construction: 30 marks
Clarity: 5 marks
Handling of questions and answers: 10 marks
