Electrical Engineering Group

Scope

The Electrical Distribution Sub Group shall cover any UK site that is regulated by the Office of Nuclear Regulation.  The group will consider improvements and opportunities in the following areas:-

  • Conventional Electrical Safety for Electrical Distribution
  • Nuclear Safety with regard to the provision of Electrical Distribution as an essential service to facilities with nuclear inventory in order to provide nuclear safety and security.
  • Engineering standards for the design, procurement, operation and maintenance of plant equipment.
  • Application of National and International guidance and standards relating to E,C&I specific to the nuclear licenced sites, e.g. British Standards, IAEA Guidance and ONR TAGs.
  • Engagement with the wider supply chain to provide support to sites.
  • Shared learning from experience from events and incidents.
  • Commissioning of new installations and modifications.
  • Reliability and availability improvements to essential services including new technical solutions and research and development.
  • Emergency response to loss of service or equipment.
  • Feed requirements and learning into other industry related bodies such as CINIF, NISIWIG and NEAWA.
Objectives

The Electrical Distribution Sub Group has agreed on the need for demonstrable improvements in four specific areas, namely:

  • British and International Standards
  • Assessment of SMART Electrical Equipment
  • Electricity at Work Regulations
  • Qualification of New Electrical Equipment (excl. SMART assessments)

Each of these areas will be led by a working group, who will develop their own Terms of Reference, and will report progress at each meeting. It should be noted that although these areas were carefully selected, if appropriate, in the event of higher priority significant developments, they will be subject to change.
