What is COP and how is the NI YGN involved?

The United Nations Climate Change Conferences are the yearly held Conference of the Parties (COP) which is the supreme decision-making body of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The next conference is COP26 to be held over 2 weeks in November 2021 in Glasgow.

The UK YGN in partnership with the European Nuclear Society will be attending COP26 as official UN observers and will coordinate attendance, deliver a number of COP26 related events and a booth at COP26. After receiving 50+ applications (including 10 international applications), a team of nine has been formed to bring together the widest range of backgrounds, knowledge, skills and experience from across the nuclear industry. You can meet the team below and read our mission and vision statements.

For the remainder of 2021, we will be organising a range of activities under our net zero programme. This will include communications, education and outreach, and events. We can't wait to share with you what we've got planned so stay tuned! The backbone of our activities is our #NetZeroNeedsNuclear campaign which you can read more about here.

We want to make a big impact at COP26 but we know we can't do it alone! So please get in touch at ygncop26@nuclearinst.com if you think you can help us to achieve our mission or sign up to our mailing list! We'd love to hear from you!
