The Opportunity

EDF Energy's Hinkley Point C, one of Europe’s largest infrastructure projects, has an exciting new opportunity for a Training Developer at our Cannington Court site.

As part of the Nuclear Skills Alliance Training Development team within the Nuclear Skills Alliance, you will deliver a wide range of training programmes across a number of large, complex technical areas in support of the operation and maintenance of the EPR.

The successful candidate will be allocated responsibility for specific courses within these programmes where they will conduct the Analysis, Design and Development of high-quality training materials that will directly support the achievement and maintenance of a fully competent workforce through all stages of the Hinkley Point C (HPC) project.

On a day to day business you will be:
  • Conducting training development activities to ensure that technical department skills and competence needs are met to the appropriate quality, cost and timescales demanded of the project schedule.
  • Conducting detailed analysis of individual and team job performance requirements to ensure that training is based on the specific needs of the employees.
  • Designing training course objectives, capturing the specific performance, conditions and standards required to inform the focus of training delivery and comprehensive assessment vehicles.
  • Ensuring the development of high-quality training materials to facilitate the delivery of engaging effective training that will ensure individuals and teams achieve the competence necessary to meet the job performance requirements
  • Ensuring consistency in the application of the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) process.
  • Establishing and maintaining robust working relations with Subject Matter Experts to ensure the development of technically accurate and effective training courses to meet the customer department requirements.
The Person:

We are looking for a dedicated person from a technical or analytical background who can exhibit a keen understanding of a systemic approach to training to be responsible for the development and delivery of technical training courses relating to the operation and maintenance of HPC. This will include meeting the technical training needs of the pre-operations department throughout the phases of the project in the approach to commercial operations.

You will support the provision of a key service to HPC that significantly influences the achievement of competence of the organisation. Strong stakeholder management skills are a must to maintain key relationships with Departmental Subject Matter Experts,  EPR stakeholders, other training developers, external contractors and external Training authorities.

The Skills

You will have:

  • Degree qualification or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience
  • A recognised training design qualification or equivalent experience demonstrated
  • SAT (Systematic Approach to Training) process and principles knowledge and practical skills preferably gained in a technical environment.
  • Knowledge of the use of modern learning methods and media and experience of harnessing these in the development of blended learning programmes.
  • Strong IT skills including standard applications such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel

It may be an advantage to have:

  • Experience in the use of training management infrastructures and systems their applications and interfaces including learning content management and learning management systems.
  • Understanding of the key aspects of nuclear power plant systems and operation
  • Experience in harnessing appropriate training methods to facilitate the accommodation of different learning styles
  • Experience of training authoring applications such as articulate or captivate.
  • Experience in the preparation for training audit and assurance
