Senior Waste Management Specialist (REF: RWM)

| Harwell, Oxfordshire

Radioactive Waste Management Limited (RWM) has been established to deliver a geological disposal facility (GDF) and provide solutions for the management of radioactive waste.  This represents a major multi-billion pound national infrastructure programme. RWM is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) which is responsible under the Energy Act 2004, for the clean-up of the UK’s publicly owned civil nuclear legacy sites including the management of radioactive waste.

We now require a suitably qualified and experienced individual to join our existing group of Senior Waste Management Specialists within the Waste Management Directorate, taking responsibility for assessing the disposability of proposed radioactive waste packages. As a Senior Waste Management Specialist, you will be responsible for a small team of Waste Management Specialists, leading and reviewing the assessments undertaken both by your team and others in the Directorate. You will also lead our engagement with the relevant parts of the nuclear industry, promoting good practice in waste packaging and ensuring that wastes ultimately will be disposable within a geological disposal facility.

In delivering the role, you will draw on your experience of radioactive waste management practices and regulatory expectations to guide your team and engage with customers. You will also engage with and support other activities within RWM to ensure that issues arising from waste management practices are recognised and addressed. More generally, you will engage with stakeholders, customers and regulators at all levels, representing the position of RWM.

Working in this area you will play a key part in the delivery of valid decision-making encompassing the complete waste management lifecycle, including disposal. You will have a proven track record in delivering multiple parallel projects and engaging with customers to define and deliver complex, detailed programmes of work. In return, you will enjoy a high-profile role within the organisation and the wider industry, with extensive opportunities to influence waste management practices.
