At the Environment Agency, we are responsible for regulating the disposal of radioactive waste across the whole of the nuclear industry in England.
Whether it be an operational power station or a new build project, our regulators work with nuclear operators to ensure the highest levels of environmental protection are achieved. As a nuclear regulator in one of our regulatory teams, you’ll be at the forefront of this work.
We are looking for Senior Nuclear Regulator’s to join the Environment Agency at this exciting time. You’ll lead on the environmental regulation of nuclear sites from new build through to decommissioning. You’ll work with operators to improve their performance and take action where environmental standards fall short. Some of your work may involve the assessment and permitting of new reactor designs.
You’ll be working with international organisations and ensuring that they can fully understand and comply with UK requirements. As you’ll be working side by side with the Office for Nuclear Regulation, an appreciation of safety and environmental requirements is required.
Experience of the nuclear industry along with the determination and enthusiasm to drive environmental improvements is key to this role. Site operators aren’t the only people you’ll deal with. At the Environment Agency, we are committed to the people and places we serve, so interaction with members of the public is an essential part of the role. You’ll need a sound understanding of relevant legislation that you’ll regulate against and an appreciation of the challenges the industry faces.
