Role Description

Defence Systems Technology (DST) is a business unit within the Marine and Technology Division of Babcock International. DST supports a wide range of exciting design, manufacture and Equipment support projects, and works with a number of key clients both domestically and internationally. The business continues to win new work and grow at a significant rate, and as a result we are currently looking to recruit a Post Design Support (PDS) Engineer to join the weapons team.

The Weapons team operates out from the Combined Weapons Electrical Workshop (CWEW) situated in the Granby Yard enclave at Devonport. The team currently undertake defect rectification, repair and overhaul of a wide range of weapon systems and equipment in support of the Royal Navy. Underpinning these activities are a wide range of support documentation which are currently undergoing transformation for use in a more digitally enabled environment. All of the weapons contracts currently operated cover the in service support for the equipment and are required to meet the equipment availability KPIs demanded by our customer.

Responsibilities for this role

Working as a PDS Engineer you will be undertaking a new role, reporting directly to the Through Life Support Manager and your role will be considered a development position assisting the Senior PDS Engineer with the following responsibilities.

  • To support the Senior PDS Engineer in managing the successful delivery of various Weapon Systems contracts to time, quality and cost, achieving Customer satisfaction and internal (financial) targets.
  • Review, Update and Amend Technical Documentation for weapons systems
  • Maintain operational maintenance scheduled records within the Unit Maintenance Management System (UMMS).
  • Update configuration statues of weapons systems and attend Royal Navy platform or shore facility as required for weapon system trials.
  • Assist the Through-life Support Manager with Obsolescence Management

What do I need to do the role?

To be successful in your role as PDS Engineer, you will be proficient in the use of MS Office applications such as MS Word and MS Excel and Adobe DC Pro and have excellent analytical and planning skills, exceptional organizational and time management skills.

In addition to this you will possess strong written and verbal communication skills and will be able to use your judgement to identify and take appropriate decisions which impact broadly on the project and business.

Qualifications

To be appointed into your role of PDS Engineer, you must have experience of Royal Navy operations or support and have a sound knowledge of digital, analogue and RF electronics.

You will also be qualified to ONC level or equivalent or studying towards, preferable with electrical/electronic discipline.
