 Nature and Scope

An outage is a period during which a power station is shutdown for refuelling or essential maintenance.  In the petrochemical industry these outages would be called shutdown or turnaround projects. The Dungeness B Power Station Outage team project manages a significant number of outages over the power station’s 3 year operating cycle:

  • Statutory Outages (turnaround)                   170 days
  • Double Reactor Outages (turnaround)          50 days
  • Refuelling Outages (shutdown)                    170 days

In addition the team provides project management for:

  • Fuel Route Outages (shutdown)                  35-50 days per year
  • Major Plant Maintenance Projects e.g. Cooling Water Pump Overhauls circa 90 days

All of these projects represent significant lost revenue and an opportunity to invest in the plant by the business. This is an opportunity to be part of the team that contributes huge business benefit to Dungeness B and EDF Energy.
