Engineering Lead (Licensing) (REF: )

Job Purpose/Overview

 Plant Integration has been created to undertake 4 main roles within the HPC project:

  1. To provide project controls through a Project Management Office for the overall integrated engineering and technical directorate’s project plan.
  2. To provide contract engineering to manage the contracts between NNB and the RD (Edvance and CNEPE).
  3. To monitor and manage the engineering delivery to the design, ensuring the transfer function between design entity sequences and HPC Programmes.
  4. To ensure consistent overview of the integrated design through management of configuration, change control, open point management, data processes and PLM functional requirements for engineering.

 Principal Accountabilities

Direct support to Sequence 2 and Licensing Lead
  • Responsible for the oversight of engineering delivery in support of the HPC Safety Case and other Licensing and Regulatory activities from the Responsible Designer (RD) , including the associated level 2 reporting. [note: Sequence 2 is a part of the contract between EDF S.A. and NNB GenCo dealing with delivery of engineering data to support the Nuclear, Environment, Security and Decommissioning cases, and other licensing activities, for the HPC nuclear power plant].
  • Support for technical exchange and decision making related to the engineering scope.
  • Support on configuration management, design change, formal decision making, and requirements definition and management.

Management of engineering delivery:

  • Works with the NNB GenCo technical entities to define and specify the licensing requirements, and the required schedule of activities and milestones.
  • Works with the RD design entity technical leads to develop, agree and monitor the annual work programme, and plan and coordinate the licensees (NNB GenCo) surveillance activities.
  • Performs a leading role in optimising the volume of engineering work required to achieve a licensable design at a proportionate cost.

Coordination of Review and Acceptance (R&A) of the engineering deliverables within the NNB Technical Directorate:

  •  Develops the R&A strategy and approves the R&A plan
  • Acts as control tower for R&A implementation between technical directorate teams and design entities.

Contract management, project control and risk management:

  • Supports the contract management activities (task order management) and variations of scope between NNB GenCo and the Responsible Designer.
  • Responsible for developing a thorough understanding of the RD contract mechanisms, content, key clauses and interpretation.
  •  Responsible for ensuring the RD Level 3 schedules are developed to the appropriate quality and aligned with the Level 2 schedule.
  • Supports in schedule management and updates.
  • Responsible for ensuring engineering risks and opportunities from designers are captured and mitigated/realised.

Technical integration and configuration management:

  • Responsible for support to the monitoring and control of evolutions and exemptions to the project referential.
  •  Responsible for coordinating with Configuration Engineers and Engineering Managers
  • Supports in the definition and specification of a Project Lifecycle Management tool
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience


  • Degree in a relevant science or engineering subject
  • Experience of working within the Nuclear Industry
  • Good Knowledge of relevant Health & Safety legislation (including Nuclear Safety) and Nuclear Site License requirements
  • Good Knowledge of power station design (EPR or PWR)
  • Knowledge of design process and design activities
  • Good project management and organisational skills
  • Understanding of quality requirements
  • Budget and commercial awareness

·      Good communication skills with internal and external stakeholders

·      Ability to travel between the various project Command Centres and engineering entities

·      French speaking an advantage
