And the Winner is...

The Nuclear Institute Scotland Branch YGN Speaking Competition 2018

It’s no secret that the nuclear industry gets some pretty tough criticism from some quarters but the knowledge, passion and skills displayed by the young nuclear industry professionals speaking at the Nuclear Institute Young Generation Network (YGN) presentation competition on the 7th August can reassure us all that the future of the industry is in good hands.

Doosan Babcock was proud to host and sponsor the annual presentation competition for the Scottish branch of the Nuclear Institute.

The finalists covered a range of fascinating topics such as an insight into the NDA / Magnox procurement scandal, how to identify counterfeit equipment in the nuclear industry and providing an overview of nuclear energy in the defence industry.

Congratulations to all the finalists who delivered excellent presentations and gave the judges a very tough job picking the three prize winners. First place was awarded to Momchil Vasilev from the University of Strathclyde with his confident and knowledgeable presentation on robotic and sensing enabled welding – “inspect while you weld”.
The runners-up were Josh Findlay from the University of Strathclyde with his presentation on a UK strategy for complete de-carbonisation of the grid; and Euan Maclean from Doosan Babcock who gave us an insight into project engineering and quality assurance in the nuclear industry.

Well done to all the finalists!
