Sizewell C Nuclear Power Station Project Update

Nuclear Institute London and South East Branch presents a Sizewell C Nuclear Power Station Project Update

Presented by: Jack Raven and Clare Turgoose (SZC)

A virtual (Zoom) early evening lecture: 18:00 – 19:00, Wednesday 23rd June 2021

Lecture synopsis:

After years of public consultation, the planning application for Sizewell C has been accepted for examination by the UK’s Planning Inspectorate. During four stages of formal public consultation between 2012 and 2019 the project engaged with over 10,000 local people and community groups who have helped shape the plans we submitted. Sizewell C will be an almost identical replica of Hinkley Point C (HPC) in Somerset.  This vital new nuclear power station will create thousands of skilled jobs and business opportunities. The two pressurised water reactors at Sizewell C will be capable of generating enough low carbon electricity to supply over six million homes, while avoiding around nine million tonnes of carbon emissions every year of operation, whatever the weather, when compared to a gas-fired power station

This early evening lecture will provide an update on the Sizewell C project including details of what stage the plans are at, some recent project updates and some background on the plant and replication from HPC.

The project update will be followed by a deeper dive into some of the concepts under consideration for SZC including Hydrogen generation, the “Energy Hub” concept and other decarbonisation benefits.
