Achieving CEnv - The Skills Required for a Successful Application

The Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) professional registration demonstrates that you hold the relevant environmental and sustainability skills within your profession at a Chartered level. But what are Chartered level skills for an environmental professional? And, if I do have them in my locker, how do I convey this on my CEnv application?

This webinar is designed to answer these questions, with the help of two experienced assessors of CEnv applications. Our special guest assessors will draw from their experience of applications that sail through the process, those tick the boxes efficiently and the submissions that aren’t quite there yet. They assess applications for the Institution of Environmental Sciences (IES) and the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM), but insights will be transferable to your professional body in the most part.

Throughout the webinar reference will be made to the competences (skills, knowledge, experience and attributes) required to successfully become a CEnv. These competences and further information can be viewed here – it’s worth a read before the webinar.

A webinar brought to you in collaboration with the IES and CIWM. You can apply for CEnv registration via the IES, CIWM or 22 other professional bodies.

Marilena Karyampa CEnv – Senior Consultant @ Arup and Lead Assessor at the IES
Marilena is a senior environmental consultant at Arup with wide-ranging experience in the management and assessment of air quality and odour related planning and policy issues. She is responsible for the successful delivery of large-scale air quality assessments of regional and national importance. She has been on the IES CEnv Review Panel since 2017, regularly conducts interviews, reviews competency reports and mentors candidates through the assessment process.
Marilena will discuss the skill-sets required for achieving CEnv by exploring the different competencies and how the candidates should demonstrate these. Becoming a chartered environmentalist demands commitment to professional standards and provides you with a proof of competence in the environmental sector, professional recognition, and trust to advocate the environment case expertly. To achieve the chartership candidates need to showcase their understanding of sustainability principles and how they apply these to their work. They need to demonstrate how they are leaders and managers engaging in strategic thinking and influencing others. Communication and listening skills, as well as handling conflict and difficult situations are vital, along with recognising obligations to society, the profession and the environment.
