As oil prices rocket, as gas and electricity become more expensive by the day, and as the prospect of the lights going out - as they did in the 1970s - yet again becomes a real prospect, government and opposition will have to take some hard decisions. Politicians will need to face the challenge and persuade the public that the nuclear option has to be faced if they want power at the flick of a switch. As part of that contract, the issue of waste can no longer be pushed off into the long grass of the next government, or the one after that. Someone has to take the decision and find a solution.
