In 2003, the BNFL research and technology business was re-launched as Nuclear Sciences and Technology Services (NSTS). The NSTS brand signalled the ransformation and development of a commercial attitude and outlook with evolution into a customer and delivery focused technology organisation. A strong technical interface with customers was set up and NSTS evolved into Nexia Solutions, which became a subsidiary company of British Nuclear Fuels plc on April 1st, 2005. In January this year, the White Paper on nuclear power: ‘Meeting the Energy Challenge’ restated the Government’s intention to establish a National Nuclear Laboratory for the UK, based around Nexia Solutions and facilities owned by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.
