Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Become a Member

Any member of the NI under the age of 37 automatically becomes part of the YGN, with several membership grades available:

  • Affiliate: students or apprentices
  • Associate: entry level grade for those new to the industry
  • Member (MNucI): professional grade for those who have been in the industry for longer, meeting the Nuclear Professionalism Standard® requirements

You can still get to attend (and benefit from!) our events and initiatives. The YGN recognises that there may be people new to the industry that fall outside of the current membership criteria; our strategy intends to develop, encourage and engage anyone that might be early in their nuclear professionalism journey. The only opportunities which are strictly available for YGN members are our competitions.

There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer for the YGN! Our activities are planned and steered by the YGN Strategic Committee. Some of these roles have sub-committees made up of volunteers to support the delivery of YGN events and initiatives. There are also volunteers required for outreach events (e.g., university careers fairs). The best way to hear about opportunities is to sign up to our volunteers list. You can also become a Company Catalyst, representing and promoting the YGN at your company.

The committee is elected every year at the YGN Annual General Meeting (AGM). This is usually held around September via Microsoft Teams. Applications will be opened prior to the AGM and you will have the opportunity to select your top 3 committee roles as part of this application. Once applications are closed, you will be invited to pitch for your 3 selected roles at the AGM (time limits will be confirmed, but you can expect this to be ~1-2 minutes).
