Nuclear Engineering Directors Forum

Nuclear Engineering Directors Forum

History

Following the success of the Safety Directors Forum (SDF), feedback indicated that some engineering issues appeared to be outside the remit or capability of the SDF community to resolve.  It was proposed that an equivalent engineering leadership model was required.  The engineering strategy was developed in 2014 under the leadership of ONRs Head of Engineering.  An engineering leadership endorsed plan was pursued which involved extensive consultation with all UK duty holders and key stakeholders.  The consultation concluded with overwhelming support for the concept.  This lead to a workshop at which Industry agreed overwhelmingly to proceed in establishing the Nuclear Engineering Directors Forum (NEDF).  The NEDF first in April 2016, and are meeting on a quarterly basis.

Purpose

Identify the key strategic engineering and maintenance issues facing the industry and identify the appropriate industry response which may be directed to Regulators, Customers (NDA, MoD), Her Majesties Government (HMG) or national organisations and may range from presentations, letters, papers, delegations or proposals.

Considered by the nuclear sector as the leading UK engineering strategic body delivering proportionate fit for purpose nuclear engineering advice.
