Speaker: Dr Dame Sue Ion

Dame Sue Ion is Chairman of the UK Nuclear Innovation Research Advisory Board (NIRAB) and an NI Fellow. She represents the UK on a number of international review and oversight committees for the nuclear sector including the Euratom Science and Technology Committee which she chairs. She is the only non US member of the US Department of Energy’s Nuclear Energy Advisory Committee on which she has served since 2005.

Synopsis: The Nuclear Industry Post Brexit

The post-Brexit era is both an opportunity for the UK to maximise the potential of the nuclear sector and a challenge in ensuring the right arrangements are put in place to enable the sector to trade effectively internationally. For the UK to regain a position as a top table nuclear nation there must be a significant commitment to staying up with the initiatives and projects underway internationally, capitalising on our historic skills and knowhow and contributing from the innovative talent in our national labs and universities.

The Brexit process itself has posed some issues which are specific to the nuclear sector and which must be urgently addressed. These will be highlighted and the current situation summarised.

We look forward to seeing you at the event.
